Edge AI for Process Consistency in Semiconductor Manufacturing

AI Vision for Cleanroom Entry Checks, SOP Monitoring, and PPE Detection

Semiconductor manufacturers rely on cleanroom controls and standardized operating procedures to limit particle contamination and maintain process consistency. Gowning requirements and production tasks involve multiple steps that need to be followed consistently across entry points and workstations. Edge AI vision can provide camera-based checks at selected locations, identifying predefined visible conditions—such as missing gowning items or potentially missed SOP steps—and prompting staff to review them.
Axiomtek’s edge computing platforms process video near the point of operation and can connect with displays or external indicators to deliver timely guidance. Integrated with established site procedures, these applications can help reinforce operator practices and reduce the likelihood of avoidable process omissions.

Reinforcing Cleanroom Entry Procedures

Gowning areas and cleanroom entry points involve multiple steps, including donning required protective clothing and equipment. AI vision can support visual checks for selected gowning and PPE items at designated entry points. If an item appears to be missing, the system can prompt operators to review it before proceeding with the site’s entry procedures.

The eBOX630B provides edge computing for AI vision workloads and can connect to a compatible external display through HDMI or DisplayPort. The display can present entry instructions, reminders, or alerts at a designated operator station.

Supporting Operator SOP Compliance

At selected production or equipment stations, AI vision can monitor camera-visible steps defined for specific standard operating procedures (SOPs). If a step appears to have been missed, the system can prompt or alert staff, helping operators follow established workflows more consistently.

The IPC962A provides an expandable platform for camera-based vision applications at production or equipment stations. With a compatible PCIe camera interface card, it can connect to cameras suited to the deployment. The AX92320 supports GigE PoE cameras, while the AX92321 supports USB 3.0 cameras.
