Camera-based systems can support real-time analysis in shared areas, yet bedrooms and bathrooms require a more privacy-conscious approach. Smart care deployments therefore need accurate detection, rapid alerts, and dependable 24/7 operation without exposing sensitive personal data.
To address these requirements, VISTATEC, an AIoT solution provider, selected Axiomtek’s AIE100-ONA ultra-compact edge AI system as the computing platform for its Tec Care® solution. Powered by NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ Nano with up to 67 TOPS, the AIE100-ONA processes video streams and data from IP cameras, mmWave radar, thermal sensors, and access-control devices locally, enabling low-latency event detection and immediate alerts across public and private care environments.
Challenges
Healthcare institutions and long-term care facilities must continuously monitor residents, while caregivers manage increasing workloads. Falls, abnormal activity, and wandering incidents require fast recognition and response, especially during unattended periods or in areas with limited staff coverage.
Privacy adds another critical requirement. Conventional camera-based monitoring may raise privacy concerns in sensitive spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms, while cloud-dependent analysis may introduce latency and increase the risk of personal data exposure. The customer therefore needed a multi-sensor architecture that could integrate video analytics for public areas with mmWave radar and thermal sensing for private spaces.
The platform also had to support reliable 24/7 operation, connect multiple sensors and IP cameras, and deliver alerts through mobile applications, care management platforms, and on-site alarm devices.

Solution: AIE100-ONA Edge AI Platform
Axiomtek proposed the AIE100-ONA, an ultra-compact, fanless edge AI system powered by the NVIDIA® Jetson Orin™ Nano. Delivering up to 67 TOPS of AI performance, the platform provides the computing capabilities required to support real-time fall detection, abnormal activity analysis, and multi-sensor data processing at the edge.
The AIE100-ONA features one 15W GbE PoE interface for IP camera connectivity and provides the integration flexibility needed to support mmWave radar, thermal sensors, and access-control devices. By processing data locally, the platform helps minimize cloud dependency, reduce response latency, and limit the transmission of sensitive information, making it well-suited for privacy-conscious monitoring in bedrooms, bathrooms, and other private care environments.
Its ultra-compact fanless design, wide operating temperature range of -25°C to +70°C, and optional IP42 cover kit provide the essential capabilities for reliable 24/7 smart care operation across diverse deployment environments.

At the core of the Tec Care® solution, the AIE100-ONA serves as the central edge AI platform, integrating and processing data from IP cameras, sensors, and access-control devices within a unified architecture. In public areas, it processes video streams for real-time fall detection and abnormal activity analysis, while in privacy-sensitive spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms, it processes data from mmWave radar and thermal sensors, enabling continuous monitoring while helping safeguard resident privacy.
When a potential incident is detected, the platform supports rapid alerts via mobile applications, care management systems, and on-site alarm devices, and integrates door and window sensors, magnetic locks, and gateway devices to prevent wandering and monitor access.
By performing AI inference and multi-sensor processing locally, the AIE100-ONA helps enable faster response, reduce cloud dependency, and limit the transmission of sensitive data. This provides Tec Care® with a reliable and privacy-conscious foundation for continuous 24/7 smart care.
